Phnom Penh: local representatives of the collective union of movement of workers at Shoe Premier 2 Cambodia Co., Ltd. were summoned by the Takeo Provincial Police to participate in a training course with partnered organizations to increase their knowledge and compliance with the legal framework.
"a serious psychological threat and intimidation" because they represent the union in accordance with The Cambodia labor Law, Trade Unions law based on the international convention of ILO (87, 98) and Professional Organizations is linked to the statute of relations between civil society organizations, national and international unions, and all relevant partners. Mr, Pav Sina, president of the collective union of movement of workers (CUMW), said.
"Our aim is to train union representatives, union members, so that they have an understanding of labor laws and other reculations as well as other topics related to the protection of their rights, so what they get from the training program," he said. "We, through partnered organizations, are one core back in accordance with the statutes of the union movement and in accordance with the laws of Cambodia."
“The action of the Takeo Provincial Gendarmerie in summoning them for clarification is an act showing the intimidation of our union representatives who just were invited attend to the training in order to increase "Knowledge, practical experience which is useful to protect the labor rights at work place and resolve disputes with employers." He added.
Regarding the intimidation of the union leaders, Mr. Pav Sina suggestedthat, "I would like to ask the provincial governor to monitor all the misconduct of the competent forces and stop any intention to intimidate the union leaders." "The workers 'movement, a professional organization representing the workers', works hand in hand with employers to improve working conditions for local workers, and we have never considered employers as enemies."
