Cambodia Prioritizes Worker Safety: Upgrading Transportation to Reduce On-the-Road Injuries

Phnom Penh: Workers' trucks are used to transport workers to work places, and it is observed that when an accident occurs, workers face serious accidents and a large number of injuries as expected, the conversion of workers transportation vehicles from trucks to passenger cars is expected to significantly reduce workers' accidents.

On the morning of June 25, 2024, there was an accident where a truck carrying workers overturned on National Road 4, with a total of 60 workers traveling on the truck, causing nearly 50 workers to suffer serious and minor injuries.

The above traffic accident happened at 6:30 in the morning at Keo Udom village, Trapeang Kong commune, Samrong Tong district, Kampong Speu province most of them were sent to Kampong Speu Provincial Referral Hospital for treatment.

The Cambodian government, headed by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, has been pushing for the replacement of workers transportatin vehicles in accordance with technical and comfort standards, which will achieve better results by 2027.

President of Collective Union of Movement of Workers, Pav Sina said, "Our union has long advocated to the Ministry of Labor and the Royal Government to replace trucks with passenger cars for worker transportation. This is the best solution to ensure worker safety, reduce accidents, and boost productivity. It benefits the workers, their families, the economy, and aligns perfectly with the new Cambodian government's policies."
