CUMW partnered with CNV Internationaal Equips Leaders with Kobo Toolbox

Phnom Penh, February 15, 2024 – In a bid to amplify the voices of garment and footwear workers, the Collective Union of Movement of Workers (CUMW) partnered with CNV Internationaal to equip union leaders with the powerful Kobo toolbox. A two-day training session, held on February 13-14 at Chhay Villa Cafe, Phnom Penh, saw 25 leaders from CUMW member factories gain valuable skills in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

This initiative comes at a crucial time, as Cambodia gears up for minimum wage negotiations for 2025. Armed with the Kobo toolbox, CUMW leaders are now empowered to conduct comprehensive surveys that capture crucial data on workers' living expenses, freedoms, and working conditions. This data will form an invaluable foundation for strong arguments advocating for a fair and livable minimum wage.

"Equipping our leaders with the Kobo toolbox is a significant step towards ensuring worker voices are heard loud and clear," said Ken Chhenglang, Project Leader for CUMW. "By gathering accurate and reliable data, we can present a compelling case for improved wages and working conditions during the upcoming negotiations."

The Kobo toolbox offers a user-friendly platform for creating and deploying mobile surveys, collecting real-time data from diverse groups, and generating insightful reports. This empowers CUMW leaders to:

Reach a wider range of workers: Surveys can be easily distributed and completed on mobile devices, ensuring broader participation and capturing the experiences of factory workers across various locations.

Collect precise and unbiased data: Kobo's design minimizes errors and ensures data integrity, providing reliable insights for informed decision-making.

Generate impactful reports: Data can be visualized and analyzed to create compelling reports that effectively communicate workers' needs and perspectives to stakeholders.

This training session marks a significant step forward in CUMW's commitment to empowering its members and advocating for fairer treatment of garment and footwear workers in Cambodia. By harnessing the power of data and technology, CUMW is equipping its leaders to champion the rights of workers and secure a brighter future for all.
