Phnom Penh: Pav Sina, President of the Collective Union of Movement of Workers (CUMW), said on January 17 that it was a good thing that ASEAN member states had approved a draft on the benefits of a social security system for all migrant workers in the region that shows the attention of government representatives of ASEAN countries.
He said that if this guideline is not followed, it means that workers who work in other countries in the ASEAN region, especially Cambodian workers, would face the loss of many rights and benefits.
"It means they go to work without the attention of the country's government representatives. Therefore, the issuance of this guideline will help all workers, not just our Cambodian workers, any workers who are working in ASEAN member countries are receiving the highest attention from the governments of those ASEAN countries.” said Pav Sina.
It came after the Cambodian Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training hosted the ASEAN Workshop for the Second Consultation on ASEAN Guidelines on the Mobility of Social Security Benefits for Migrant Workers From January 15, 2024 in Siem Reap.
The purpose of this consultation workshop was to review and discuss the draft ASEAN guidelines on the Mobility of Social Security Benefits for Migrant Workers and to agree on the final draft of the ASEAN Guidelines for Consultation and Final Approval of ASEAN Commission on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW).
Pav Sina said that without these guidelines, migrant workers would be subjected to violations of their labor exploitation rights. Therefore, this guideline helps prevent all forms of exploitation of the labor force.
