CUMW Holds Internal Meeting of Management and Staff on The Project Developed by Women

Phnom Penh: The Collective Union of Movement of Workers on September 26, 2023, held its internal meeting of leaders and staff on the implementation of projects developed by women to strengthen the economic resilience of garment workers during Covid-19 held in Phnom Penh to evaluate the implementation of the project in the past 10 months.

On December 1, 2022, the CUMW in collaboration with CARE Cambodia, implemented a project developed by women to strengthen the economic resilience of garment workers during the Covid-19, under sponsorship of the brand owner Lululemon.

Through the implementation of the project over the past 10 months and reaching the end of the project, CUMW decided to hold an internal meeting of management and staff to monitor, evaluate and reflect on past implementation, as well as to show the results from the implementation of the 10-month project action plan to its management and staff.

It should be noted that CUMW, a professional organization that has been actively working in promoting the rights, freedoms and dignity of workers, has collaborated with CARE to train about 2,500 workers under topics such as Social Protection, Gender-based Violence and Harassment, and Financial Management, all of which are important for workers to supplement and address emerging issues in employment and daily life.

Through the project and especially through the above three topics, the management and staff, as well as peer educators praised the results of the project in the past 10 months, it is observed that this project has changed the attitude of the employers and especially workers, who have become more aware of the use and benefits of the National Social Security Fund, and the forms of violence in the world of work have been reduced towards the implementation of better working conditions, especially financial management, workers have applied the knowledge in their workplace and daily life.

In the meeting, President of the Collective Union of Movement of Workers, Pav Sina urged his staff and members to increase their knowledge and develop themselves in accordance with CUMW’s vision, mission and value statement. "Building knowledge and increasing your capacity, you are really responding to what is our Mission Vision and Values are. If we all sitting here and we all have no capacity development and work activities, we will remain a non-competitive union. "

He added that, "We can only move forward if all of you increase awareness, increase capacity and increase knowledge." He urged all CUMW’s officers, as well as local union leaders to do their best and increase their knowledge, do not act like a glass full of water, which means do not be a person who knows everything. Everyone has to focus on learning new knowledge to develop themselves and the institution.
