Kampong Speu: In the morning of September 20, a horrific traffic accident occurred on National Road 51 in Koki village, Samrong Leu commune, Ang Snoul district, Kandal province, between a truck carrying workers and a family car, causing 22 of the 44 occupants to be seriously injured.
While transporting workers to work at the 28th km on National Road 51, the truck collided with a small family car, causing the workers truck to overturn spilling the passengers onto the road, and causing a large number serious injuries. At present, 1 person is being treated at Sothearith Clinic, 5 at Sok Heng Clinic, 5 at Prey PongRor Clinic and 11 at Bat Doeng Clinic.
It should be noted that the workers who met with the accident this morning are from the QMI factory and Hing Ngai factory both located along National Road 4, and the cause of this horrific accident is still unknown.
Prum Bunthon, President of the Cambodian Development of People's Life Association, said although the number of traffic accidents between trucks carrying workers has decreased, it still occurs due to three main factors, human, social and living factors. The main factor is that drivers do not obey the law, do not understand each other, overtake in dangerous situations and do not receive proper traffic law training.
He said, “In order to reduce traffic accidents, relevant institutions must work together to formulate policies on road traffic safety in factories in order to be more effective, and the government needs to examine the possibility of providing additional benefits to workers to have safe transportation available."
