Phnom Penh: Pav Sina, President of the Collective Union of Movement of Workers CUMW, said that the social assistance fund of Cambodia Government and from the employer side should be received for everyone under the Cambodian Labor Law.
He mentioned that the artisans who used to work at The Artisans Angkor were suspended by their employers and in the past all the artisans also received social assistance fund from the Cambodian government, but later they were cut off and from July to December 2022, they do not receive a suspension allowance from the employer, at this point the Ministry of Labor should carefully examine the violation of the law by the employer.
It should be noted that later, between January and February 2023, with the settlement of the union and the union representatives who submitted to the Ministry, they received a suspension fee of only $10 per person, which really caused difficulties to their daily lives greatly.
He asked Artisant Angkor to clarify whether the whole process of the company should continue or not, and if it continues, the company must settle their allowance and if not, the artisan requests the payment company Seniority from the beginning to all of them.
In the event that this process takes a long time, Pav Sina suggested that all relevant ministries look into the provision of social assistance funds to all artisans, including the company to provide suspension fees because they have waited a long time and even waited without a subsidy.
"So I would like to ask the relevant parties, especially the head of government, that you mentioned recently to provide social assistance to the workers," Pav Sina said.
He added that "Taking this opportunity, I would like to ask the head of government as well as the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Finance to look into the provision of social assistance fund to all sectors, not just the garment, footwear and bags sector, But to focus on all sectors, including informal economists and all affected artisans, please give them all."
