Phnom Penh: Pav Sina, President of the Collective Union of Movement of Workers CUMW, said that freedom of creating local unions has been a challenge for workers lately because companies still violate the laws of the Kingdom of Cambodia, that is, the dismissal of workers as founders of local unions arbitrarily.
He said that is still a challenge because the representatives of three labor unions were fired by the companies after they formed a union within the company for the rights and freedoms of the workers as stated in Cambodian law.
He said that the three factories that violated the law by stopping the founders of the local unions arbitrarily include: Pontus Footwear Ltd. in Takeo province; T-Win Garment Cambodia Co., Ltd. in Takeo province and Caswell Apparel Co., Ltd. in Phnom Penh.
He added that before the companies fired them, the companies threatened them in every way, even though the companies already knew that the union founders had special protection. However, the companies do not care about the law. In addition, CUMW will hold a press conference on discrimination against trade unions in the coming days.
