Phnom Penh: To address the impact of the recent global rise in fuel prices, the Minister of Labor and Vocational Training has convened a meeting with representatives of employers and trade unions to discuss practical ways to alleviate workers’ travel expenses during this transitional period as quickly as possible.
At the meeting, it is hoped that employers and unions will reach a mutually acceptable agreement that helps reduce the burden of workers’ commuting costs while preserving the competitiveness of Cambodian industry.
The meeting follows a sharp increase in fuel prices triggered by regional conflicts in oil-exporting countries, which have disrupted sea routes and driven international oil prices to surge.
As a country heavily affected by global oil price fluctuations, Cambodia has seen truck owners who transport workers raise their fares in response to the higher fuel costs.
