Workers to Receive Additional Temporary Travel Allowance of $2.50 per Month, Effective April 1, 2026

Phnom Penh: Following a tripartite meeting among the Ministry of Labor, employer representatives, and worker representatives, agreement was reached to provide a temporary additional travel allowance of $2.50 per month on top of the existing travel and accommodation allowance. This measure will take effect on April 1, 2026, and continue until fuel prices return to normal levels.

Worker representatives also urged all workers to use public transportation or government-provided buses to reduce daily commuting costs, especially during the upcoming Khmer New Year.

To address the impact of the recent global fuel price surge, the Minister of Labor and Vocational Training—under the guidance and attention of the Prime Minister of Cambodia—convened a meeting with employer and trade union representatives to discuss and identify ways to quickly ease the burden of travel expenses for workers during this transitional period.

Through this meeting, the employer and trade union sides reached a mutually acceptable agreement that helps lighten workers’ travel expenses while preserving the competitiveness of Cambodian industry.

The meeting followed a sharp rise in fuel prices caused by regional conflicts in oil-exporting countries, which disrupted sea routes and drove international oil prices upward.

Cambodia, heavily affected by international oil price increases, has seen truck owners who transport workers raise their fares in response to higher fuel costs.
