Phnom Penh: This is a case that has occurred with some workers who have their union dues deducted without their knowledge or consent. If such a case occurs, workers can do the following:
1. Check documents and evidence
- Check pay slips or salary records
- See if there are any documents or letters that you have signed to agree to union dues deductions
2. Ask your employer or human resources (HR) department
- Ask clearly:
- Why was the money deducted?
- Which union was it deducted from?
- What legal basis or approval documents are there?
3. Contact the relevant union in the factory
- If they say you are a union member
You have the right to ask when you joined and what documents you signed
- If you do not want to become a member, you can request to withdraw your name and stop the deductions without coercion
4. File a complaint (if not resolved)
If the employer or union does not resolve the matter:
- File a complaint with
- The local Department of Labor and Vocational Training
- Or a worker assistance organization/legal organization
5. Important rights that workers should know
- Workers should not have their union dues deducted without their consent
- Union membership is a voluntary right of workers, not forced
- You have the right to claim a refund if the deduction was made incorrectly
