Phnom Penh: On the occasion of the 139th anniversary of International Labor Day, May 1, the President of Collective Union of Movement of Workers, Pav Sina, urged the Cambodian government to review and promote the implementation of International Labor Organization conventions 87 and 98 (ILO-C87, C98).
Pav Sina said, "As a representative of the workers' side in Cambodia, I would like to request the Cambodian government to review and consider promoting the full implementation of ILO conventions 87 and 98 to ensure that the rights of workers and employees, as well as the right to collective bargaining, are not obstructed or opposed by the employers."
The union leader continued that, based on his observations and work with workers, he has observed that the right to freedom of association is still being harassed and obstructed by employers. That is, when workers exercise their right to form a union, they are terminated by their employers.
He added that the right to freedom of association is still being hindered by employers opposing their rights. Therefore, urging the government to review and promote the implementation of Conventions Nos. 87 and 98 is to promote the rights of workers in all sectors so that they can exercise their rights without hindrance and interference from employers.
