16 Days of Activism Against GBVH in the World of Work

Phnom Penh: The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and harassment in the world of work is an annual campaign that runs from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day.

Launched in 1991, the campaign encourages individuals, organizations and governments to take a stand against violence against women and girls by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, and aims to raise awareness and mobilize action to combat gender-based violence worldwide.

Each year, the campaign focuses on a different theme, and for 2024, the focus is on rebuilding the lives of victims and taking collective responsibility to end violence against women and girls.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 16 Days of Activism in uniting of Gender-Based Violence and Harassment in the World of Work, Pav Sina, President of the Collective Union of Movement of Workers (CUMW), said that: The closing of the 16 Days of Activism in 2024 is not the end of the campaign, we will continue to work according to the plan.”

He said that although Cambodia has made efforts to hold the 16 Days of Activism since 2019, violence and harassment against women in the world of work still continue to occur in Cambodia. All relevant parties need to be involved, and more time is needed for the campaign to achieve good results.

During the 16 days, various activities are planned globally, including workshops, rallies, social media campaigns and educational programs, aimed at empowering communities to address and prevent violence. Participants are encouraged to share their stories and strategies for change, fostering a sense of solidarity among those affected by gender-based violence.

As the campaign progresses, it serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing challenges facing women and girls around the world. By raising awareness and advocating for policy change, the 16 Days of Activism aims not only to highlight the issues but also to inspire action that can lead to meaningful change in communities everywhere.
